backfire
With my HKS and testpipe, whenever I lift off at 5k.
So with FI cars, it's more common because there is more fuel to accommodate for the increase in air, so when backfire does occur, there's more fuel that is unburn than stock which causes the more violent and pretty backfire?

flame kits are illegal/stupid, i believe.... i mean think about if you were at a gas station.... but misfire is ok i think it usually happens when u pushin the car hard a cop shouldnt see you misfire because you shouldnt be pushing the car that hard around a cop or you would probably get a speeding or reckless driving ticket, so just watch your back and dont let the cops see you misfire

But if backfiring is illegal.. then srt-4's are tickets on wheels.
when I had my Evo it used to give a small backfire and shoot a flame between shift when accelerating. It looked cool at night. I had full 3" exhaust and test pipe on that car.
I agree with what Saki GT stated above. That is the usual cause for the backfire/flame
