Before you get the car detailed, at least try this first procedure first. Go out and buy:

2Kturkey, as yet, I am not a Zaino distributor, so I cannot order anything for you yet. I could get it for you and bring it over when I come back to Melbourne in early July - if that is suitable for you?

I spoke with Sal Zaino yesterday and he gave me the terms of the distributorship agreement. Two of the things he said that he won't allow is out of state sales and internet promotion. He did say that I could have in my signature that I am a Zaino distributor though. I need to put down a nearly $2K USD committment though with Zaino, so I need to think this through if I can only sell in Michigan!

I will ask him about what I can do with overseas sales where there is no distributor. If he will let me, I will be happy to do it. At the moment though, the exchange rate btw Aus and the USA is really bad and this stuff is going to cost you a LOT of moula in Aussie dollars.

In answer to your question....yes, Meguiars is a great product. Although it is not as good as Zaino (IMO) and the differences "can" be seen, Meguiars is still an excellent product. In fact, if I couldn't get Zaino, I'd be using Meguiars again. If you follow all the tips I have outlined in earlier replies, this will help you to narrow the gap in terms of finish received. Just put down lots and lots of coats of Gold Class Wax (5 coats minimum). You should be able to get the 3M swirl remover in Australia.

Maybe the exchange rate will have improved and I can bring some Zaino for you in July. By the time I shipped it, it would be pretty pricey stuff. I guess it's all up to how much you are willing to pay to get the stuff.

Cheers!

PS. with regards to fabric softener, I agree with 2x6, but also that the cotton pile is too soft to pick up the polish/wax. Cotton it's own with no fabric softener works fine - UNLESS the water you are using is really hard! Then, you'd want a bit of softener there!

I e-mailed Sal Zaino and asked him about my using swirl remover on my red s2k and having some color come off. He said that I shouldn't rub so hard and that the 2k "should" have a clear coat paint. So my question is do the s2k's have clear paint? I want to know so I know whether to by the Z-2 (for clearcoats) or the one for non-clearcoats. And if it is clearcoat, how do you explain the color coming off with the McGuire's swirl remover?

Thanks!

I've tried calling and emailing Zaino to find a distributor in Arizona but they haven't responded yet. I want to perform the procedures outlined by Sime this weekend and therefore can't wait for a delivery from Zaino. Does anybody know of a list of distributors or specifically of a distributor in AZ? There's no such list on their site.

Give Ram Air Tony (or the "RAT") as he is known, an email at: kantexok@aol.com Tell him that Simon Richards (Sime) sent you. Tony is a great guy....he is a member of the Corvette Forum.

He is located in Texas and may be able to help. If he can't help, ask him if he knows any distributors in your area.

Cheers,

[QUOTE On the subject of Meguiars there are two product options
1. One step: Gold Class wax (total cost $A35); or
2. Two step: Deep crystal polish followed by Deep Crystal wax (total cost $A25 per bottle x 2 bottles = $A50).

Will I get a better shine going the one step or two step route? [/B][/QUOTE]

Even though they say that the Gold Class is a one step system, they are not really correct. No wax in itself is a one step system. If you are lazy.....THEN it is a one step system!! I would use the polish....Meguiars Medallion or Wet Look Sealant first. Put about 3 coats of that on first, followed by 2-6 coats of Gold Class Wax (seriously!!)

I forgot about how expensive G.C.W. is in Australia!! You are right, Zaino will not be any more expensive, but is better stuff! Here at Costco in Michigan, I can get a huge bottle of G.C.W. (much bigger than stock size) for only $12.95 USD!!!

Just let me know what Zaino you need by June 25th.

Hope this helps!

2kturkey - I believe that you are incorrect, at least in regard to the red. I had to have some minor bodywork done a few months back. I pointed out a scratch that, to me, appeared to go to the metal. A thin scratch, but deep. He told me that it really wasn't the metal I was seeing, but the edge of the scratch in the clearcoat reflecting light. He took the car into a bay in his shop, and 10 minutes later, the scratch was completely gone! Point is, the red has a clearcoat.
