bad gas mileage
my last tank i drove mostly city and was easy on the gas and i got 23.7mpg. how high do you rev the motor during normal driving? i usually shift around 3k, even 2.8k in the higher gears. one tank i tried shifting at 3.5k to see how it affected my mpg and i was at around 21mpg.
These "How bad is my gas mileage" posts are somewhat superfluous and bears little points of reference. All you may be doing is listing the "best case scenario" or "worst case scenario".
1. We never know exactly how a person actualy calculates their mileage. One guy later confessed that he drove till he was 2 bars down from full and did the calculation .........................................
Some people have no clue how to do a reasonable fuel consumption determination.
2. "Mostly" highway mileage? What does this mean? Even if there is a sprinkling of city driving, this can skew the determination in an wide variety of ways and can not be held up for comparison with others who "Mostly" drive the highway. Unless you have a precise route that everyone takes (like in autojournal write-ups or programs), "MIXED" highway/city mileage is irrelevent and is not a basis to proclaim that there may be something wrong with your car.
Your "bad" fuel economy may ONLY be bad because you are the owner and driver of your car. If you sold your car to someone else who drives it in a different location, under different driving styles and conditions, that other owner/driver may get substantially different fuel economy than you because of the 2 points above.

i get about 21mpg. usually ~240 miles every ~11.4gallons.
per absolute tank i would be getting about 280miles but i never drive that to that limit.
i drive mostly city, kinda. i'd like to know what "city" means. i live in the 'burbs, where the roads aren't serious "stop and go". sometimes if i leave at the right time i'd be like i only stopped once or twice in 12 miles.
and on the street i rev pretty low compared to when i'm on the highway, so my "city" miles are sometimes better than my highway miles.
for comparison, my 00 civic si got only slightly better gas mileage @ around 23-24mpg.
so i'm pretty content with the gas mileage my S is getting.

Nothing is wrong with your car. I drive about 20 miles a day, mostly highway with some stop and go 2-3 days a week. I'm consistent at 20 mpg. It really ends up being a mix of local/highway traffic - I think the days of pure, uninterrupted highway driving are gone thanks to the traffic situation in metro areas. I could (and have) gotten 25-26 IF shift at 3500, use 6th gear and don't drive it like a sportscar. If (always) I drive it like a sportscar and have fun...meaning at least 4K RPM (love the sound and the feel, particularly with K&N FIPK), I lock in at 19-20 MPG. Difference is...that is what I expect. Don't think anything is wrong - drive it like a granny if you want better MPG
Good Luck!
Good Luck!
well i usually fill up with no bars left.......... and i usually city or highway shift at about 4k, which i guess is pretty high compared to most of you guys... and i guess my gas mileage is about normal bc i do occasionally really "get on it" once in awhile
