Had the hardtop installed a couple weeks ago. Decided to remove it for the weekend. Found the power cord that extends from the top has and area (about an inch long) that looks like it was cut and extended. The area is between the plug and where the curls starts, and is covered tightly with black vinyl tape. I haven't attempted to untape it to see if the line was indeed cut.
Now, do all hardtops have this done on the power cord? To me, this looks like it was done at the dealership where the top was installed. I can't imagine this nice looking top coming out of the factory with a power cord taped with black vinyl.
I also found a good size golden bolt with a washer, and a black +head screw on the passenger side floor. I've tried looking but can't see where they may belong. They were not there before the hardtop install, so I wonder if it has anything to do with that. Are there any screws/bolts that are thrown out after a hardtop is installed? It's just too creepy...
Anyway, I'd like to get your thoughts on this before I make a call to the dealership. Your feedback is very much appreciated!
just got mine installed yesterday in my garage by some rocky mountain forum folks. the tape is on mine also (sorry, could be a better shot),
and a total of six bolts are removed. two have paint and four are shiny
the shotgun shell is for size reference. all i had. i think your install is probably fine.
it's on the outside of the frame of the windshield. underneath you will find the windshield frame is actually the same color as the body. if i were to take it off on the above posted pictures the yellow would run from the top, right to the windshield and also down the column to the front fender.
