Bad smell when AC on
Hi guys, I recently bought an use S, MY00. Everytime I turn on the AC this bad moldy smell comes out.....I am not sure what to use to fix/prevent. Air freshners would only mask the problem, and some of the "odor killers" would actualy take care of the problem but have really bad side effects like faded carper color and even rust.
Have any of you had the same problem, then how have you fixed it....?

You can look for a spray can of some sort of disinfectant especially designed to treat A/C systems that stink. Check places like Autozone, Pepboys. You basically run the fan and spray into the intake of the HVAC system as per instructions on the can. It'll kill all the "buggies" and leave your system smelling like a fresh Irish spring day.
In a pinch, I've heard Lysol also works.

I believe this has been a long-time complaint with Hondas and might have something to do with the fact that they are built very airtight. If you run your air it's workings get cold and collect moisture which drains out the bottom of your car (all a/c 101 so far, right?). Thing is, if you run your air up until you shut your car off, the evaporator is still cold and covered with condensation inside your dash. With no circulation the water sits and ferments overnight or however long before you start it up and get some circulation thru there. A suggestion would be to shut your air off a few minutes before you reach your destination, allowing the ductwork to warm up, but, this is crucial, keep the fan running and circulating air thru the system. This will alow the moisture to be pushed out of the system, off of the cold components, drying most of it out. Then you can shut your car off. I have had an experience similar to yours in all my Hondas and this seems to be the cure.
