Bad smell when AC on
** This is off a bmw forum that i've came across in the past. hope this helps man.**
The following Lysol fix has worked for the entire Summer and without making my car smell like Lysol. I fully expect to have to do it again in Spring.
Here is what I did two days in a row using Lysol "Country Scent":
1. Drive around with the A/C on for a couple miles (or on your way home from work).
2. Shut the A/C off about a minute before parking leaving the blower on. Should feel it get humid.
3. Park the car, shut if off and leave the ignition key in a position that allows the HVAC system to work.
4. Manually choose the middle level vents and Medium-High fan speed.
5. Open the front doors and close the middle dash vents and the rear seat vent. This diverts all the air to the door vents, but since the doors are open, all air is diverted outside of the car.
6. Pop the hood and open the HVAC filter housings. Spray Lysol

Since almost all of the above replies work, I'll add a preventative tip - Only run your AC w/ the recirc on during the hottest days. Most AC units are designed to run with the fresh air vent open. A helpful Honda tech mentioned this

It is my understanding that the "recirc" mode is only used for:
a. keeping the dust out when driving through such conditions (like gravel roads with top up).
b. to help heat up the interior faster on those really cold days.
c. to cool down the interior faster when the car is quite hot from sitting out in the sun for a while.
Once the interior is either heated up or cooled down to some extent, the "recirc" should be changed to bring in fresh air from the outside.
In our cars, using "recirc" with the top up, windows closed, keeps the air too stale.

Hi guys, I recently bought an use S, MY00. Everytime I turn on the AC this bad moldy smell comes out.....I am not sure what to use to fix/prevent. Air freshners would only mask the problem, and some of the "odor killers" would actualy take care of the problem but have really bad side effects like faded carper color and even rust.
Have any of you had the same problem, then how have you fixed it....?
