Practicing a few second gear starts can be useful for when you find yourself in some low-traction surface like mud or snow. I wouldn't make a habit of it, due to the required clutch slipping, though.

DON'T START OUT IN 2ND GEAR.

It puts way too much heat into the clutch.

If Honda wanted you to slip the clutch they would have given you a taller first gear and a huge clutch disk with more cooling.

If you want I'll send you a disk and pressure plate that is black, smells like ash and gets soot all over everything it comes into contact with. I have lots of them that are replaced under warranty when they should not have been.

The warranty decision is up to the Dealer and the DPSM. As a general rule if the clutch is slipping, or burned, it is not warranty.
Thus, the "when they should not have been".

The clutch tsb was for minimizing engine vibration into the transmission on deceleration. Nothing to do with wear.

Woodwork,

I think was Bass was trying to say is his clutch failed 5k after they did the TSB-054 service, not that the TSB had to do with wear. I know his driving habits well, and he's not hard on the clutch at all...he put 30k+ on the original clutch, but once the TSB was done the clutch burned out quickly. The DSM decided not to warranty it since the clutch is a wear item, even though for those of us that know him know this wasn't an issue of poor driving habits, but poor service on the TSB.

Anyway, all of that aside....don't do it
