Default Basic mods required for track?

Hi all, first post so be gentle! Not sure if this should have been in the Tech forum but it kind of spans both areas.

I was wondering what mods should be put in the 2k to better survive track days. Larger Oil cooler? Larger radiator? Uprated brake pads? Uprated brakes?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

As long as you keep the shiney side up you should be in good shape overall.

How many track days are you talking about?

The best bet is to change your fluids on a regular basis. Most of the Track Days I have gone to do not push the limits of cooling TOO much. I would not invest in extra cooling unless you get to the point where you are starting to overheat.

The Stock brakes are not great for track days. They are "ok" but will generally fade pretty early on. I would reccomend a track specific pad upgrade, and a good quality DOT4 fluid like ATE SuperBlue or Motul600. A stainless brake line kit would be a "nice to have."

Beyond that, I wouldn't change too much unless you need to. Well, mabey and oil catch can on the PCV line, and a sock on the brake master cylindar.

That's a pretty good summary. I track mine and the only upgrades I have so far are stainless brake lines, track pads that I put on that day, and DOT4 fluid. Oh, and brake ducts, but those aren't a must.

Also, if you have an 04+ year model, you want to replace the stock clutch slave cylinder with an 03 or remove the delay valve from it or you will eat your clutch.

Oh, and make sure your oil filter is on tight. There have been a number of cases where oil filters have backed off. "Hand tight" does not fly on the track. Make sure it's tightened to spec. It's also a good idea to bring enough oil and a filter for an oil change just incase.

I've noticed this delay on my '05, but only when I'm shifting very, very quickly almost a powershift. When I clutch in fully, pull the next gear and let out the clutch at less than a lightning pace, I do not notice the delay. So, I'm wondering how hard I'm going to be shifting on the track?!?!? I can pull gears very quickly, but I only tend to notice the delay when I'm really banging very hard on the gears...guess I need to do a track day in this car and see how I notice the slip.

You won't be "power shifting" on a road course. There are FAR bettter ways to pick up time than abusing the hell out of the car.

Even if you don't NOTICE it, it will still slip more with the delay valve.
