Default Battery question

Hello everybody,

after only 1,5 years I notice the car has difficulty starting up in the morning. Car is always in the garage at night but does a lot of short city driving. When starting in the morning the dash hardly lites up and the startmotor has to turn some times before the engine will go. During this process you see the dashlights fluctuating. Question... Is it normal that the battery can be almost empty after 1,5 years? I know I do not a lot of long wighway driving, so the battery has not much of a chance to reload itself this way. What is the best way to recharge it? Taking it out of the car and hooking it up to a reloader or can it also be reloaded while being in the car?

Thx for any comments and a very happy newyear to everyone out here with many miles of pleasure in the S

Frank.

You could have a defective battery that's why most manufacturers offer a warranty. Also, if you've let the battery drain several times by leaving the ignition on that can be bad. Cold weather will also cause the battery to seem weaker.

Ignition was never left on, nor the radio or anything. The car has had one winter last year, so far temps are still good. I do a lot of city driving but I never had this problem with any of my previous cars. You guys think I have a defective battery? If I want to try to recharge it before being able to go to the dealer, should I take it out of the car to recharge? Thx!

I'd give it a recharge and see if it holds the charge. If not I'd take it in with the receipt or contact the manufacturer to see what kind of warranty is applicable!

I'd have the system checked, besides a possible defective battery you could have a problem with the alternator or voltage regulator. The dealer should have an electrical diagnostic tool that can check that your system is properly charging the battery.

I got 5.5 years out of my stock Panasonic battery. I just replaced it for the winter season as it was getting weak. Have it checked out, it should be under warranty.

Battery was still doing okay at 4yrs... replaced it for winter since I just put in more heavy electronics and needed more reserve capacity.

The stock battery is extremely weak. I replaceed mine a month ago with a 600 CCA battery and have not had another starting problem since. My stock battey was only rated at 425 CCA, the panasonic battery had two dead cells after 17 months of use. I was not impressed. I got a decent battery for less than $50.
