Default Bay Area S2K Purchase

I just moved to the Bay area and I'm looking to join the S2K family soon. I was wondering what's the price most people have been paying for a new S2K. I've been to only 1 dealer and they were asking for MSRP+$5000. That price seems a little steep considering the car's been out for awhile now. Any recommendations for dealership offering better deals? (I'm willing to go quite far to get the right deal)

Look in the marketplace forum. An 02' white/red is for sale for $29,900 in South Dakota. Shipping is probably $1000.

That price is ridiculous. I paid MSRP for my '02 back in Dec. I probably wouldn't pay that much today with '03s set to come out in a few months. Look in the "MSRP Dealer" section (Phil at Merced Honda is one) or consider buying form out of state as redS2 recommended. Shipping would be no more than $800 from SD.

Do not pay over MSRP.

Thanks for the great info.

I will be sure to check out more of the dealerships around. If I do purchase from out of state, would it be very hard to get it registered in California? A friend of mine with S4 mentioned he had a lot of trouble getting a Cali plate after moving here from the East coast...

Paid MSRP + Options at Concord Honda in December 00. All the options were good (CD changer, spoilers, floor mats) except the paint protective coating (glorified wax job)...

Sales guy was great, I can't remember his name but he looked like one of the Beach Boys

I used Priceline.com and ended up at Lodi Honda. Paid $200 over MSRP.

Service was great w/ no hassle. Good luck.

No problem getting it registered in Calif. but you will owe use (sales) tax.
Vacaville Honda sells all S2000 at MSRP. I have no idea if any are available in stock.

The MSRP + $5,000 was probably for the Suzuka Blue. Dealers mark this car up like it was the hope diamond or something.

Marin Honda has two S2000's on the showroom floor. One is Red for MSRP. Next to it is the Suzuka which is MSRP + $5,000.
