Mingster, are you getting a new one or giving up ownership altogether?

Scott -

when you purchased yours in Oregon, did you have to register it first as an Oregon automobile; then when you drove it back to California, re-registered it with us? Or did you purchase it there to have it shipped here?

I actually got mine through an auto broker and the first time it was registered was in California. I had the manufacturer's certificate (I can't remember the proper name) indicating the VIN and whatever other information went with the car. It was originally delivered to Kendall Motors in Eugene, Oregon, and I think that information was on the paper.

If you're getting a new car from a dealer you would have to work it out with them if you can register the first time in California or if you would have to register first in the other state. I know that there was additional paperwork giving permission to drive the car from Oregon to California to get it to a California DMV office.

I don't have all of the answers, but I've seen a lot of misinformation about registering out of state cars. If the car did not originally meet California emission requirements, it must have 7500 miles on it before it can be registered in California. However, if the car did originally meet the California emission requirements, as with the S2000, you just have to get a smog test, then you can register it. That much I know for sure.

I bought mine from Selma Honda, (just south of Fresno) in 1999.

Paid approx. 200 over MSRP. Now they'll probally make one hell of a deal.

It made for a nice drive home.

I bought mine in MA and had it shipped to CA. All I needed was a smog check and taxes for CA. No registration for MA.

Again, thanks everyone for all the help and information regarding this new purchase. It looks like I'll have more options than looking in just the immediate area.
Just 1 more quick question, is it worth it to maybe wait for an '03? I'm looking to the Spa Yellow and there's been no word of any drastic changes to the car (?). Thanks again.
