I've had the experience of driving behind a S2000 with a cat removed and can honestly say it stinks. I'm all for modding as long as the car does not emit additional pollutants. This is one mod which s/b left at the track.
That would be me. The TP is gone. You can now look forward to driving behind Danny and smelling his exhaust.
With a supercharger, I was also getting a tremendous amount of black sooty smoke when I punched it. With the cat back on, it no longer does it.

It's the aftermarket exhaust causing the drone, not the testpipe.
Give it awhile. I found that the butt-dyno seemed to measure a more significant power gain after 500 or so miles.

Could this be from the ECU adjusting to it?
Hmmm... i'm suprised that you think it sounds more "ricey." When I had this setup with a different brand testpipe (not that it matters) I thought that it made it sound less ricey since it wasn't the same monotone sound, but this just goes to show how subjective the sound of exhausts are.

The overall pitch of the exhaust has increased slightly as well. I think I can sum it up this way:
You might have to go into a room where no one can hear you to try this.
Make a "wau" sound. Looks funny, but sound that out. Notice how wide your mouth is open. Now make the same noise but open your mouth about 25% more. Thats the difference in pitch. In a nutshell. Don't get me wrong, the sound is good (really good). It's just not what I want all the time. Sometimes I don't want to be heard.
