Officer BOB apparently was working in NC on Saturday morning and nailed me about an hour away from Asheville at 3:30AM. I was the only car on the road and was pushing the gas well when a car came speeding up behind me. Thought it might have been someone i passed who now wanted to race, but when the car didn't pull up next to me i knew it was a cop. A couple of seconds later his lights come on. Pulls me over and tells me he has me on radar doing 81 in a 60. He takes forever to write out the ticket and then comes back to explain he's giving me a break cause in NC doing 21 miles over the limit means they have to take your car away from you. thanks for giving me that break...i don't understand this cause the last posted speed limit was 55 actually so i don't think he got me on radar but hey what can i do. i was glad he said only 81 when i was doing well over 90 most of the way. anyways tickets in NC are rather inexpensive. only 100 and change for this one...in NJ that would have set me back probably at least 200bux.

Thank God points don't transfer over from NC to NJ or else i'd be in court in a couple of months in NC

Yes, I've noticed that fines are a good deal less expensive in more rural areas/states. I got a ticket a few years back in MO for doing 95 in a 70, and the fine was like 125 bucks. In Chicago, I'd be paying an arm and a leg.

I'm surprised that you didn't try to get away. What a great challenge for the S2000. I don't think you get too much time for felony elude!

How do you know the points won't transfer? Is there reliable information somewhere that tells which states do and don't transfer info? Or do you mean the point won't transfer, just the ticket?

FlyingPig,

When Office Bob turned on his bubble gum lights, I thought we had reached West Virginia by then. When he pulled in front of me and I saw the Virgina plates, I had the V1 off the windshield and down under my feet in less time that it took to think about it.

Thanks everybody for all the advice. It's probably too far for a court appearance, especially because both our records were free of points.

Hey, Rick. Since the Leesburg Courthouse is only a few min. from my house, I'd be more than happy to stand in for you!

But seriously, here's one from the Practice what you preach department:

On my way back home today I encountered Officer Bob and his flunkie near Berryville. As some joker in a beautiful clear-coat, primer finished Ranger and I rambled along at 74 the V1 went off like an Xmas tree.

At that point I slammed on the brakes and in a moment of clarity realized why Honda didn't put a manual top in the car.....

As many of you know, I have my V1 mounted between the roll hoops and let me tell you--tonight I regret it. I swear I dislocated my shoulder reaching around, unplugging the power, and yanking it down. Thank goodness it's attached with velcro. If I had a bracket like S2.001K, I would have both had a reckless driving ticket and a rather painful injury to boot.

Well, I have absolutely no clue as to why, but Pigs Neal and Bob chose to ignore us, go thru the median, and head in the opposite direction.

Gregg,

I'd love to have you stand in. Maybe they could even put the points on your record .

Yes, the greatest moment of panic was not getting stopped but whether they'd find and confiscate the V1. I had visions of them searching the car for it.

I have V1 also but most radars are probably defenseless against that instant-on stuff. I wonder if SoCal CHP uses them.
