I agree with wortham. I would get 4.57 over 4.77. I drive highway quite a bit to get around the city over here. The 4.77 would leave my rpms too high while driving on the highway, uses more gas and makes the engine work harder. Plus, you'd shift a lot in traffic.

4.77s for the track or for someone who just drives the car once in a while for fun.
4.57s for just someone who just wants a more aggressive driving experience.

You can get 4.44s from Honda. Those are in the new MY04s.

Why would you install the 4.57 over the 4.77??

Thanks.

roenick: The first mod you should do if you don't have much money saved up is the CAI. Adds a little bit of HP, but the sound in VTEC makes it totally worthwhile.

As far as the list you have I would consider contacting Power House Amuse. They seem to make pretty good power while staying Naturally Aspirated. Although I am not a big fan of the AEM CAI's, they do make power. Amuse's header or Toda's for that matter mated to the Amuse R1000 exhaust being controlled by an Amuse ECU along with the 4.57 or 4.77 gears would more than suit your needs for a while. ITB's were mentioned and thats prolly the next thing on the list to try, maybe more aggressive Cam Shafts or injectors could round out the list. Good Luck and let us know what you decide.

Razor:
Ya. Among the changes to the 04 are the f22c, 4.44 gears, stiffer chassis and 17" rims. I think those are the only performance changes to it. So it doesn't surprise me that it's faster than the 00-03 now.

thawyze,
do you have 4.77? I do and I do a lot of hwy driving. My engine is not reving excessively no have I noticed a significant decrease in gas milage. roenick, I think if PM and talk to anyone that actually has these gears, they'll tell you that high revs and milage are not problems.

tenblade: no i have stock 4.1. I think the stock 4.1 is good for highway. I'm already at like 4.5rpm at 85mph, I can only imagine how it is with 4.77

If you don't mind the high rpm, then that is the way to go. I think I may go tone deaf....

This is what I've heard from talking to people about it. I agree though, you should get opinions from the source.

wyze,
I have a Comptech CAI, gears and single outlet exhaust without a resonator...Its really not bad. I've heard duals out there with more noise than me. 5300 rpm is bad at all for engine with a 9K redline.

i'm slowly becoming convinced that 4.77 may be the way to go now.

i have yet to drive in a car with that gear (or 4.44 for that matter), but i've only taken it from others around that it tends to create a high RPM down the interstate.

so here's my question to those with 4.77 (and know about the 4.57 as well)

what kind of RPM would be made at ... say ... 95 mph? (aka my highway driving speed )
what's the performance increase from a 4.57 to a 4.77? or from a 4.10 (stock) and 4.77?
and where's one of those fancy links that shows the speeds of every gear and the top speed? i'm too lazy to do a search atm

I wish I knew the difference between 4.77, 4.57 and 4.44. But I'm also looking for my first mod to do so I guess I'll have to do some research on gears.
