As long as you have an e-brake which you can gradually play out with your right hand, while right foot and left foot coordinate on gas and clutch. You can feel the point where you are beginning to develop some forward thrust, and then finish playing out the e-brake. Some years ago, I had a Taurus SHO with manual transmission and their standard parking brake - a lever caused the brake to release instantaneously. That was much tougher to handle for an uphill start.

why would you do that though? you should be able to hold the car on a hill using just the clutch and possibly slight throttle modulation...
doing this repeatedly will prematurely wear out your clutch. Use the ebrake like people have been saying. Just learn the engagement point of your clutch, so you can just take your foot off the brake and give it the right amount of gas while slipping the clutch.

Come spend a winter in rainy, hilly Seattle. You'll learn.

And people wonder why Ford is in trouble. Let's put a foot ebrake on a manual car.

man, its questions like this that make me love living in Florida.
I think combined the state has maybe 6 hills at most.

good to know though, I never would have thought to use the e-brake. I always just slipped the clutch.

You must be young. They all used to be that way.

^^

I love mountain roads but steep incline stop & go traffic is a PITA.
It's too bad they don't make something like a ski lift for cars.

You get used to this pretty quick. I don't even notice anymore even in stop and go traffic uphill. The ebrake is good for a beginner, but once the musle memory builds up, it'll be second nature. For stop and go uphill, I somtimes coast in 1st gear at idle. Uphill especially, you can creep along pretty slow.
