Taught both my son and daughter to drive a stick and one of the things I made them learn was the ebrake method. Many stops in the middle of a steep hill until they learned to start up smoothly. The advantage of the ebrake to a new driver, or one unfamiliar with hills, is there is no fear of rolling backward. You can hold the car on the hill with only the ebrake so one only has to learn coordination of the clutch and throttle.

there really shouldnt be any discussion of this subject.

how can people own the s2k and not know how to drive manual?

go practice. if you stall stall stall...then just do a nice little 6k clutch drop and be done with it

Dude, I've been in Jersey. You guys back East have no clue what actual hills are. There are several hills in downtown Seattle where you will break the rears loose if you try to launch it without the e-brake (especially if the road is wet).

(I've also been in the Midwest, and you guys don't have hills either. Of course you don't have to use the e-brake on the gentle slopes you guys think are hills.)
Plenty of hills here. I've never used the parking brake to help me get going. Haven't burned out my clutch yet either. Unless the hills in Seattle are like the hills in San Francisco, I just don't see a need for it.

I don't use the e-brake very much either for taking off in a hill, except in the winter for the most part. I do use it sometimes when the idiots behind pull right up on your bumper.

If I were ever sitting on a slope and the person in front of me rolled back enough to use my front bumper as a holder for their car, I'd most definitely chase em down and give them a solid piece of my mind. One scratch, crack, or mark and I'll be on the phone with the police in a heartbeart to make sure no cost comes out of my pocket.

Essentially the same. With more rain.

I would like to see how you guys do it without the Ebrake. When I use the ebrake my actions are much more relaxed, and I don't feel rushed at all. I don't burn my clutch like I would think the foot brakers do. I'll make a comparison vid of the ebrake trick if someone wants to shoot there foot brake one. We will let others be the judge of witch is worse on the car.
