Default Best year S2000 to get...

What do you guys think is the best year S2000 to purchase? Keeping the TSBs and such in mind. I know 02 and 03 would be better since they have the rear glass window, but what about the 04 generation 2 s2000?

Depends on how much you want to spend
If money is not a concern, get a new one!
Other than the glass rear window/ a little better radio/speakers.minor interior changes & MY04 having the 2.2L engine they are all the same...

money is not a conern, but i want to get the best model possible for the best price. i hear that the 04s are a toned down version of the previous generation s2000 with more torque, lower redline, different suspension...etc.

im probably going to be picking up a 02 03 next spring/summer if there arent any other cars out that appeal to me by then.

04' is nice! Extra torque, bigger wheels, better handling!

I agree with your thinking on the 2002-2003. The tranny was beefed up a bit, glass window, oil-jet bolts, stereo, spark plugs, clutch, all brought up to date. Basically you are getting a road-tested de-bugged car for a decent price. An 04 is good if you can afford it because it is all this and more, some people gripe about the very slight civility of it over the 03 but all are hella fun and have more potential than most drivers can tap into.

I was just faced with this decision myself, and opted for a near new MY02. If I get a S2K, I want to experience the crotch rocket / high rpm / quick steering ratio character which it's well known for. To me, I was concerned that the MY04, while nice, is a watered down experience. Plus, with an MY02, I saved about $8K to spend on mods. And you can still get the Honda Extended Warranty from Hardtopguy for only $895. It really is the best of both world (unfiltered S2K experience, plus the warranty of a new car).

The 04' is not "watered down." But I do agree that by purchasing an 02', you are able to save money for mods or other stuff. And if you get a good deal on a low-mileage, mint condition S2K, you can't beat it!
