The big boys now recognize import tuning?
I've been into tuning Hondas since it really first began (Outside Cali). I started in 1991 (pre 91 it really was lowered trucks with a big stereo) with my 1987 Honda CRX si moved to a 93 del Sol Si (put 16" rims on it right away) then very quickly moved to my 95 del sol VTEC (a Honda performance giant of its time whether you believe it or not... hint.. go drive one... it feels like an S2000). I'm now on my 2nd S2000. I've had a total of 9 Hondas since then even though I have not modified a few of them like my 2000 CRV.
Throughout this time I have been a paying subscriber of the 3 "big" magazines: Motor Trend, Car & Driver, and Road and Track (along with many other more specialized magazines. Since the day I bought my CRX I have always wondered why these magazines have ignored the import scene. Sure it started in California way back but it really did not hit my area or most of the country in a big way until at least 93. Now, in 2001 with the import scene hitting the 2 billion mark I have noticed that all 3 of these magazines have articles on an "import scene" related issue. Have we been recognized? We may have been all be it 10 years late. It

It's kinda weird how much attention imports are getting due to that movie.

Import tuning has been around longer than both you have been alive. Only a small amount of individuas in the past paid much attention to it. The only reason it's being paid attention now, is publicity and the younger generation wanting something to relate to of their time. This is not a bad thing but "FAST AND FURIOUS" is about BS. It ain't real and it was a joke. It don't happen this way and won't ever. You've seen it's hayday though. As prices go up less will participate. There isn't enough big money backing or spectator participation. Not like NHRA and some of the other. Once again, Hollywood has done a great disservice to it's following. Same thing they tried to do with motorcycling and dragracing throughout the years. They have stereotyped it's following to lawless, Ricehead, punks. No offense. They didn't show it the way it is because it wouldn't sell any tickets. Personally, it sucked.
They thought it was just a fad like mini-trucks. Now that companies like Ford, Mercury, etc have vehicles designed specifically for this market, they are realizing it`s not just a fad and we are getting some ink.
