Last night I cut the exhaust on my S2000 just past the resonator and removed the mufflers...shoulda done this a long time ago!
The start-up brings a deep unexpected rumble to life and prodding the throttle I can tell I’ll be even more excited to hear the engine in full song. It’s incredibly tempting to bring the revs up a bit but I’m sure I’ll wake the neighbors. Instead I quietly prod along my suburban streets in what to me sounds like a GT2 car idling in the pits itching to punish the pavement beneath it. Finally, out on to a main drag where the last three hours in the garage and a season of debating over what exhaust to get can finally be put to rest. As I ease into the throttle and feel the car accelerate the noise builds in the low rev range into a full out beautiful scream as I crest 9K, the shift to second truly is fantastic. The sounds pops as I shift to second and builds again as I accelerate it sounds as if I am on the track with a race director in my ear yelling PUSH! I let off the throttle for a stop light and the exhaust crackles with only the authenticity delivered by a power plant making over 100hp/liter. The crescendo of music behind me just gets better and better as I blip downshifts off coming into the next stop light. Going through under passes sounds like gunfire when I hit the fuel cut and I love it!
Only part that sucks is put the car into storage the day after I did this!
