Dude, not to scare you on this subject, but I must tell you my horror story on my windshield tape.... I removed mine about 3 months after I bought my '01 Silverstone.... Well, I was almost completely around the windshield to the passenger side when I found something I didnt like. I cannot be sure, but it looks as though when the tape was installed at the factory, it was not put on correctly the first time, and the peeled it off and re-applied... I say this because on the passenger side, there's about a 4" section where the paint has been scuffed with something like steel wool... It was like this when I peeled the tape back and of course it was too late. I took it to my dealer and showed them and they basically told me I was SOL because that tape was supposed to be on there and I should not have peeled it off. Oh well right? Thankfully, it's not that noticeable and I keep it waxed all the time, but to a perfectionist like me, it's a real eye sore.

I took mine off my Suzuka (do you need to see pix?) and it took me about 5-10 minutes. There was not a single glue spot or bad paint mark at all. A little Zaino and I was all set....

Chris, this is so easily repaired, it's not funny. I mentioned that I had two spots like that on my car and it must have taken all of 15 minutes to remove both of them by hand with my 3M Swirl Mark Remover. It is no big deal. I'm sure that if you saw your car before it was shipped from the paint shop, you would have seen many of these spots where they had to lightly sand some minor imperfection in the paint to make it look good.

If repairing a very minor spot that has been sanded bothers you, then don't even think about removing the tape on the windshield frame. I would say that there is a very good chance that you will see one or more spots like this. However, I would much rather remove these sanded spots, than fuss with the glue left behind from the tape removal. It is simply no problem to repair these spots.

I had a rock hit the tape and it protected the paint. It almost knocked off a slice of tape, it's only hanging on by one side of the scar. I pushed it back down, hopefully it continues to adhere. because if it comes off completely, I won't know what color touch-up paint to use (black or yellow?)

Mine had one small defect when I removed tape. I got it fixed under warranty. My argument was that Honda has advertised the car (02 full line brochure, showroom poster, web site) with tape removed so they in effect have approved or condoned removal. Took persistence as DSM turned me down but I went to AHM cust. relations and then BBB and they fixed it as good will.

I pulled mine at about 3k miles, had little trouble with the glue sticking under the tape. One small section of scratches right around the left curve. Some 3m rubbing compound took good care of that though. Love the look w/o the tape. Also makes the hardtop look 100% better.

just looked at Edmunds.com for the 00 model and all their pics still have the tape. Is there a certain year the tape became optional?
