Default Blown motor at 50K miles.

Uggg... my bud's 00' S2K bent a rod (he thinks) at around 7K RPM.
The car has around 50K miles.
He says it will still run, but makes a LOT of noise.

This worries me to no end. My 00' S has 78,700 miles, and I drive 130 miles 2 days a week. (not to mention the around town driving)
I do not have the money to replace or rebuild an S motor.. so needless to say, I am slightly concerned.
My S has been great to me, though. Many drag launches, MANY MANY redline shifts, (rev limiter split second bumps) Never any sign of any tranny trouble at ALL... no odd motor noise, (except slight valve clatter on cold mornings)

BUT I am really worried that one day.. I will hear a bad noise and see lots of smoke and oil.

These motors are strung out. I think piston speeds reach 5400 ft/min.
Is this proving to be excessive for a reliable street car?

Am I REALISTICALLY going to get 200K(!!) miles from THIS honda?

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE my S2000.
Im 24, and its been my dream car.... and I finally have it.
I have put exactly 10K absolutely trouble free miles on her.

But, this owner is worried about that little F1 motor under there.

I would just make sure your not running low on oil. I don't think you have to constantly worry. I was actually looking for a M3 before i considered the S2K. Go to one of there forums, they just talk about parts breaking all the time. Not that i don't like the M3. Maintenace cost is just to high.

why are you worried? the motor just doesnt blow on its own... you have to cause it.. if you properly maintain it, you shouldnt have a problem, the motor was made to hi-rev and operate at high rpm, your buddy prolly misshifted or something... you just have to be careful about that if you arent paying attension..
as for your drag launches... all you are realistically wearing is the clutch/ the rear diff and tires...

nothing is guaranty to last with excessive abuse...if you were to do normal maintainance and drive normal, this engine will last 200k or more..

Make sure you are doing all your regular maintainence. Keep your valves properly adjusted, have your retainers inspected from time to time. I shouldnt have to mention things like check and change your oil.

I just blew my engine recently and dropped a mint getting it rebuilt. I took great care of my car but drove it very hard. These things happen but you can lower the odds of it happening to you.

My s2000 has a bent rod too, The engine won't start up anymore & if I were u i'll tell ur buddy not to drive the car anymore until it's fix. Driving with something wrong to ur engine can do more damages beside the bent rod. It'll probably cost your buddy 2200 to get it fixed or maybe less who knows. Your buddy probably had a mishifted at 3 gear going to forth but instead shifting it to second.
If u got anymore questions just pm me I know how u feel your worried about your car

he does not drive it... its on blocks.
He is fully building another F20C to 10-11K RPM capability..
Getting that ready to go in, so his case is not that big of a deal.

I, on the other hand, do not have another spare motor to put in.

tripleblackS2K,

I'd suggest upgrading your 2 hole banjo bolts to the new 4 hole versions when you have the downtime to do this. The extra lubrication is a good idea to have on this engine IMHO. (which reminds me I have to do mine soon)
