Body work and retail value
I have been toying around with the idea of maybe looking at a 1 Series BMW. I have an 2006 S2000, NFR. About a year ago a lone vandal with a key had his way with my car, long story short I had the car repaired, professionally at a very reputable shop that is certified in even Ferrari repair. The car came out great, color matches, recleared all damaged panels from top to bottom etc. Basically it was done the right way. My concern now is, how much would this effect the retail value of the car? Bluebook seems to bounce around a little and I would like to start on the high side obviously and go from there if I do decide to make a move. Any ideas what I should expect?
Yes, all panels are original. Most of the red paint except for the lines where there were key scratches is original as well. The clear coat on the panels is new though to keep from any peeling in the future.
Honestly, even original panels don't mean much, as long as they are OEM. I replaced my drivers door twice. Both times it COULD have been fixed, but I refused, and insisted on brand new doors. Personally, I would RATHER have brand new panels, than fixed ones. No bondo, no popping out dents, nothing. Perfect OEM is the way to go. Hurting value is nothing but personal perception. I have seen cars completely original that looked like crap, and I have seen cars that had damage, but were fixed properly, and are flawless. I'd pay "retail" for the "fixed" one.
i will not buy a car that all of the panels do not have the VIN matching the car. As far as the OP, if your disclosing it to the people that show intrest in the car and all of your panels are new it should have minimal affecton the value, will depend on each interested individual though
