Default Boot Cover is a PIA!

Well, I've had the S a number of months now and decided to go to work with the boot cover on to help keep out dirt and whatever out of the mechinisim as was suggested by the manual. I get 2/3 of the way to work and the friggin' sky opened up. That's the one thing that's a pain in Florida, it rains with the sun out so you have no warning. While the boot cover looks nice, it sometimes can be...well...a pain in the ass.

I agree, it is a pain. But I still use it almost everytime. The only time I don't use it is if it looks like it might rain shortly or if I am out on a short trip and I need to raise the top when I park the car. The one thing I do to speed up the install/removal process is I don't connect the two middle fasteners. Just the two outside ones and the two on the straps.

The one major improvement Honda could have done for the 04 models was to redesign the top to function more like the Boxster, Spyder or the new Z4 top. Forget about upping the displacement, more torque, revised bumpers, etc., an improvement in the top would get me to upgrade to the 04 model.

mine is also on all the time unless i am washing the car...
did get caught in a brief shower once- found cover and pulled over. would be nice if it was more automatic, but i really do like it. can understand that it would be more of a pain in areas where there is rain.

I use it during the weekend when I know the weather is going to be nice. I love the way the car looks with the boot cover on.

Agreed. The car looks better with it on, and it does help in keeping dust and debris out of the roof mechanism. But it is a pain to install, and no matter how much you adjust it, it still flaps around at highway speed and looks el-cheapo.

The plethora of them typically found on ebay is living proof that few people actually use them.

I had this problem also. The back end would flop around. In my case, the top was sitting too high when in the down position so it kept pushing up against the boot and eventually the back tabs would work itself free. There is a TSB that shows how to adjust the top mechanism so it sits lower when in the down position. You need a crowfoot wrench to adjust the bolt. After the adjustment, no more flopping around.

I had a similar experience with rain. It was a drag. I rarely use my boot cover. I like the looks, but it's a PITA.
