Boot cover will not stay down
Do any of you have any suggestions or advice for keeping the boot cover down? It seems to last about 20 miles or so on the highway and then I see it begin to flap in the breeze. It's also a little difficult to install. Thanks for your help.
I have no problem with my boot flapping in the breeze while driving, but then again, its in a closet somewhere back at home.
I've only had it on twice since I've had the car. Its too much of a PITA to deal with, and even more takes up too much space in the truck when I want to take it off to put the top up.

Jallen, after the boot is installed and the back of the boot tucked in, try pushing the boot down and back, towards the rear of the car. This method appears to help although it's still not perfect. The back of the boot still pop loose on me occasionally. I have been meaning to come up with a way of extending the little tabs that tuck under but I haven't gotten around to it yet. The boot cover is definitely one of the few weakness for the S. In search of a better boot.......
it can be a pain in the ass, especially when new.
i have found that folding the boot cover (as detailed on the bottom of the cover) makes the problem that much worse.
I make sure the top is down as far as it will go. Usually, a gentle nudge after it is "power retracted" and then I put the cover on.
For the most part (about 95% of the time) the cover stays on without a hitch.
Not sure if that helps or not, but give it a try. Just remember, try not to fold that thing and let it get used to being flat.

I have found that the problem is that my top does not stay folded down all of the way. Over bumpy roads, the top pops up a little and puts pressure on the boot cover, causing it to come loose. If you press down on the top after it is completely retracted, it helps, but doesn't solve the problem.
Hi there,
Would it surprise you if I said that there is a "TSB" for that situation? I try to keep up with you guys.
If you use the top cover and it pops out in the rear have the dealer do Service Bulletin 01-038 to adjust the "down stops" on the roof motors.
If the top is real new the fabric will not let it fold down all the way and it doesn't rest on the down stops. If that is the case let the top get warm in the folded postion and it should go down a little further.
If you don't use the top cover the bulletin doesn't matter.

The boot cover gets easier to put on as you use it more. I find that it also stays in place better the longer you use it. Once I put it on, I always push it back, towards the rear of the car to make sure the tabs are properly tucked in underneath.

Make sure you follow the steps in order per the instructions. First attach the four snaps on the boot to the posts, then attach the two straps to the side panels, then tuck the cover in along the back. As an extra measure to make sure the two tabs are in place along the back, I push down on the cover along the back and then pull back on the cover just enough so that the tabs catch and go under the lip as designed. I haven't had any problems with mine since I've been doing this. I remove the cover in the reverse order (untuck the back, remove the two straps, and unsnap the four snaps from the posts).
