Brake replacement question
Came back from the dealer - says i need new rotors - roughly $1400 for rotors/pads/labor - can't have them resurfaced because mine have been wasted away DUE TO CORROSION.
Facts:
My car is a MY00
70,000 Miles on it - never replaced the pads till now (audible grinding sound just started on the left rear 2 days ago - pads have about 1-2mm left)
Driven somewhat gently
Last year or so car has been driven around town maybe once a week so rust build up evident on brakes
Car is exposed to harsh Chicago weather as it is street parked
Ok brake experts, whadya think? Does this sound right or am I getting scammed on gettin new rotors?

70k miles and you wonder if it needs new rotors and pads?
In simple terms the answer is yes...
$1,400 is total bs, get other quotes. Go here and look at the actual prices for parts and you will see, $1,400 is like rape.

I'm not doing anything at work so I'll type it out for you too:
Front Rotors $105 (x2)
Backing Plate $20 (x4)
Front Pads $43 (x2)
Rear Rotors $100 (x2)
Rear Pads $49 (x2)
Total Parts Cost: $674 + tax.

just giving pricing all parts of the brakes to give him the high end of pricing spectrum...and show that even when replacing them, the $1400 quote he got was WAY high.
Backing plates are very durable, I know, I have spent plenty of time cutting mine into pieces.
