Your manual should state that you can vtec once you've hit 600 miles on the odometer. But feel free to read your manual to validate that. Your's is an '04 with slightly different engine specs than the pre-'04s.

If he follows what Honda has put in the manual and his car breaks, he has some recourse. If he follows your advice and something breaks, what recourse does he have? Can he come to you for compensation?

Welcome aboard, Jay! Treat your S right, and it'll treat you right. Cozy up with the owner's manual and you'll get a feel for what's in store.

My only tip (and, BTW, I agree with the "stick with Honda recommendation" approach) is to keep your eye glued to the dipstick. Oil consumption patterns change a lot during breakin.

Best wishes.

OR you can be like me and not break it in until 3000 mile marker (Yes that's 3,000 and not 300). I didn't even know what VTEC was when I first got the car. But s2ki straigthen that out for me.

Manual states 600 miles under 5k rpm and no hard braking. Take it on a road trip and you'll soon get there. Honda suggests break-in procedures for a reason depite what some of the "experts" say.
