I am currently looking to replace my break pads and I am not sure what brand I should go with. My current stock break pads are worn down and need to be replaced. I was wondering if it would be in my benefit to go with an aftermarket break pad? or should I just stick with the stock ones? If I should go for a aftermarket pad what brand? I am also debating changing the stock rotors to a drilled and crossed aftermarket set. Good idea or waste of money?

 

all depends on your driving style. if you dont track or do any hardcore lapping then stick with OEM. OEM is more then enough for the average driver

 

Brake as in stop. Break as in broken.
I say waste of money unless going to a complete setup..larger rotors and better calipers are the only thing you will get you a good improvement over stock. The stock pads are just fine unless doing serious track duty. You might think about using Motul or ATE brake fluid if you do track the car.

Just put another set of OEM pads in.

If you don't, you will start to "know much about brakes" in a bad way. As in, "these pads sure suck" or "these pads sure are noisy" or "these pads sure do leave a lot of brake dust on the wheels".

 

If you don't track, just get OEM pads. They are more than good enough for almost anything up to dedicated track work.

"Higher" performance pads will squeak, wear rotors faster and dust more, which is annoying on the street.

If anything you might want to go to a "cheaper" pad that dusts less than OEM if you don't like brake dust, giving up some braking performance. Not such a big deal, since occasional stops are tire limited, not brake limited.

o'reilly's auto parts carries semi-metallic pads for the s2k, $18 a pair i think. I am going to try those out sometime. right now I'm on OEM pads though.

 

I'm not so sure I'd be cheaping out on your brake pads. At least get the stock ones if you need replacements. Stopping safely cannot be measured in terms of price.

If you want to experiment with aftermarket brake pads (which are better, IMO), try the Hawk HPS pads. They're reasonably inexpensive ($80f/$50r) and they stop like a gem. They are the next level of street pad. You can use them for light track/autox duty, but there are better pads for those uses. I've tried these on a few cars with outstanding results. They don't make any noise, and they dust about as much as the stock pads. When my stock pads are gone, those will certainly be their replacements
