Break In Period: BS Or The Real Deal?

I have been reading about all of these people waiting for the break in period before they VTEC their cars. And I know that the manual suggest this. However, is there anyone on this forum who DID NOT wait for the break in period and suffered the consequenses? Whatever they may be?

I have been on a couple of test drives where the sales guy took the car up to redline with 30 miles on the car. And I'm sure that this happens often. So what's the deal. What damage does it REALLY do to the engine if you don't wait?

And what is the VTEC engagement point for MY04's anyway?

I'm of the thinking that if the OWNER wants to VTEC during break-in than that's their perogative. But IMO this should never be done by a dealer to a perspective customers' car.

Many people have followed proper break-in and have had no problems. Many people have not followed proper break-in and had no problems. Not sure if it's a myth or not, but Honda put it in the manual for a reason...

Just for the record, I followed Honda's break-in procedure.

Break in is BS. Read this....http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm I have personally seenengines ranging from my S2000 to freshly built 450-500 hp Supras and VR-4's to sport bikes "broken in" using this method, and they are all running like German tanks. Read the whole article, so you get the whole idea behind the process. There are many people on this site who have done just the same, with no ill results.

I can't honestly comment on the fact some people say their cars are faster than others because of the break in method. There is support for both sides of that argument. I broke my car in using the above method, and I beat the crap out of it on a daily basis with not a single complaint thus far.

theres one thing wrong with this argument and that is that Honda bench test every engine for some time before fitting!

true, all f20c's are run up to redline before being installed in the car. they need to check for proper vtec engagement and engine stability at high rpm.
