Break In Period - The Tease!
Just picked up the new car and its way fun. But this 5500 RPM thing is just driving me nuts. I mean the car is chomping at the bit and these short shifts - well you've got to know what I am talking about. (Well OK I ran it up to 6 a couple of times but jeez what's a guy gonna do) And just as it starts to get interesting!!
Ahh, its still a joy to shift even if a bit early all of the time, and the handling just rocks.
Well tomorrow's another day and time to work off some more of those lazy miles.
For sure next week we'll be in VTEC!

I just hit 800 miles myself and haven't done over 5500 yet. I'll slowly work it up to redline, and after 1000 miles, do whatever I feel like. (I didn't take it over 4000 the first 600 miles - I know, I'm anal.)
Yeah, it'll be a whole new car when I VTEC it!!!

Mine isn't fully broken in yet.
I've vtec the engine several times under 500 miles and I doubt I've done any damage.
Many mechanics have told me not to worry too much about Honda's break-in period as it is meant as a general guideline only. Sure following it probably won't hurt, but breaking into Vtec a few times under 600 miles isn't going to cause your engine premature wear.

I started Vtec on my 04 after it hit 600 miles. only 2 times between 600 - 800miles. And now I am doing VTect at least once a day after 800 miles. I notice the VTec "lap" is becoming more and more obvious. It is really addictive

I had a post about it too
