Break-In Technique
I babied it until 600 miles and then VTEC'd pretty much immediately. Didn't hit the rev limiter until my first track day at about 1500 miles. I went through about 1-1/2 qts of oil during the first 3000 miles, but haven't used a drop since.
So I guess it depends on your definition of "low" vs. "high" oil consumption. That first 1-1/2 qts. seemed like a lot to me, but I knew that other owners had had the same experience, so I wasn't worried about it.
I'm at about 12k miles now.

I suggest following what Honda says to do in the owner's manual. I don't have mine handy, but as I recal it gave specific instructions about the first 600 miles. It also said to vary your engine speed during the break in. I agree with this. You want to run your engine at various rpms to get a good break in.
Having said that, I confess that I changed my oile earlier than the recommended 6,000 miles. I used Castrol GTX. Before the first oil change, I burned about a quart of oil. I haven't noticed any consumption since then. I was autocrossing my car before I hit 2,000 miles.

Bill: You agree with the manual on driving style break-in, but disagree with the oil change interval recommendation? I mean, i agree with you on the latter, since 6k miles is two years of driving for me.
BTW, how can you be sure that it is not the the "turn yourself around" part of the H-Pokey that is what it's all about? You may have been off-track all these years! ;-)
