Thumbs up break in used motor?

is there a need to 'break-in' a used motor? i just got my car back from havin another ap1 motor put in. it had roughly 17k mi. (it was barely driven but car was wrecked)...

i know i have to let the ECU 're-learn' everything but how long would that really take? wen i start the car the 'maint req'd' lght blinks a couple times...and i still have to get the timing adjusted too, so is it a bad idea to WOT?

just warm it up, and drive it as hard as u want, and then adjust the valves.

I would take it easy for a bit because depending on how long the engine set up the rings and valve seals will need to re-seat. Just drive it easy for a couple of hundred miles and then adjust valves if needed and you should be good to go.

well lastnite i drove it for a bit then when i got home i popped the hood, n heard ticking! im thinking/hoping its the timing chain because when we first started, the timing chain was knocking against the case due to the guy that put the motor together didnt tighten it right or something...

so should i still drive it around? or should i go get it checked out immediately? how would i know if the valves need adjustment?

rocrfela, cut the "Ask Jesus" responses out, please. We've had quite enough of that.
