breaking in my 05
Hey everyone, enjoying my new S, but cannot wait until I can get on it. The manual says no hard braking for 200 miles, I still have not and I have 550. The manual says no vtec (5.5rpms) until 600 miles. Is this good or do most people do more like 1000? Thanks for all the inputs.

I believe 600 is more than enough. There have been countless arguements as to whether waiting 600 miles before VTEC'ing is of any benefit and if VTEC'ing the car before hand will cause any damage. A few who have VTEC'd early claim there cars are faster than others who have waited. Do what gives you a warm and fuzzy. I brought mine past 6000 RPM a few times before 600 miles and my car runs fine at almost 16k miles a year later and doesn't burn oil between my 4500 mile oil change intervals.

It seems to me that the engine would have to be tested when build & testing over 6000 rpm to engage vtec would be part of the test. If they didn't test, how would Honda be assured the thing would work properly? I might be off here, but I know that my ordered 05 had aprox 6 miles on it off the truck.

Why are you here posting? You should be out putting 50 more miles on your car. 
After 600 miles, I only revved into the 6500-7000 rpm range for 100 more miles or so before really getting on it. But that's just me. I like to ease into things.

The idea is to break the internals of the engine and drive train in gradually. I don't believe that VTECing off the bat would be good for the engine. I also think you can feel the engine start to free up as you acquire more miles. (starts to rev faster and pull harder) You kinda have to feel the engine out and see what it wants.
