Default Breaking in a new S2000...

I have had my S2000 about 2 weeks now and it is brand new. I was told to keep the revs under 5000rpm for the first 500 miles and I will pay dividends in the cars future performance. This is cool and I have been being a good boy and resisting temptation. Now... once I have hit 500 miles, is that it and I can go nuts, or should I continue to take it easy for a bit?

Any advice appreciate.

it is 600 miles befor vtec.......My typical break in was 600 miles of easy driving then normal driving to 1000 miles, then an oil change, regular oil then drive it howeveer the hell you want! change to synthetic between 5-10k miles this is debatable!

So really I need to get past the first oil change before I go nuts?

for the first 600 miles:

-vary your driving habits, drive in the city, highway, traiffic, everything you can think of. vary the rpm and avoid cruising on the highway at one speed. if you have to travel on the highway, occasionally shift down to 4th or 5th and do some full throttle bursts...but do not exceed 5500 rpm.

-try to use the engine to slow down the engine(engine compression braking). downshift often(use rev-matching of course) and let the rpm rise up to ~5500 rpm and let it fall down gradually. this creates a lot of pressure on the engine and helps seat the oil rings more efficiently.

i don't want to get into when you should do your initial oil change, it's just going to open up a can of worms.

It is so difficlut to stay discplined and not go over that barrier, you can just see the rev counter willing you on!!! I have to be strong.

Honda does not recommend changing the oil so soon due to the additives in the factory oil. I think you need to wait at least until 2500 miles before the first oil change.

On the way to the first autocross with the S the mileage went past the 600 mile mark and I was bumping the rev limiter that morning.
