i v-tec'd the day i got my cars (i'm on my 2nd S2000)......

i sold my first one to a fellow board member with 90K on it.

it now has over 100K....you guys do the math.

break-in is over-rated......but hey, it's YOUR car.

(FWIW, my old car was one of the "strongest" ones in our group)

theres a trade-off:

break it in hard -> stronger engine, shorter lifespan

break it in soft -> slightly weaker engine, longer lifespan

If you are superstitious and conservative, break-in mileage is 600 miles before VTEC.

If you are not superstitious, let the car warm up to operating temperature and then drive it like you stole it.

I have done the break-in both ways with multiple new cars and have not noticed a difference (2 S2000's 2 Cobra Mustangs, Audi S4 and Audi TT).

I believe the recommendations will *improve* your chances of having a trouble-free engine, but there are never any guarantees. As for driving like you stole it right away, you *may* increase your chances of premature engine trouble, but again I don't think it is likely.

FWIW, I took delivery of my s2000 on a Thursday morning. By midday I was deep into Willow Springs International Raceway.

No problems to date, car feels plenty strong.

My advice, follow the owners manual, Coco!

Regarding oil, there's already a ton of posts on that subject. You might want to search around a bit and do some research.

Best wishes!

Any advice appreciate.
I was told to keep rpms below 5000 rpms 800 miles and under on the s2000.

For me, I always break an engine in easy for the first 2k-3k miles. Vary rpms for 1200 miles, gradually drive harder but do not redline during the break in period...(2k-3k miles) I also won't exceed 100-110... After 5000 miles your safe.

Good call driving easy... Besides I don't redline unless someone wants to race.
