1Y2KS2K posted in another thread how he liked the bright display but hated putting his hand through the wheel to brighten it. Has anyone worked on a way to make this automatic? I always have my dash on bright during the daylight. Is it programmable?

Don't forget there are two settings for the dash brightness...one for when headlights are on and one for when headlights are off.

Don't put your hand through the wheel to adjust the brightness (or the trip odometer)!

Reach around the wheel.

Safety tip over; you are now returned to your regular discussion.

Dan,

Please explain... Is there any way to make "bright" the default setting when switching the headlights on? If this were a software problem I could fix it.

They are two settings, independent of one another. Adjust one brightness to your liking with lights off, and the other to your liking with lights on. No re-programming needed.

I believe he's referring to, driving at night. If you want it to be in full bright mode, yes you gotta hit it and hold it in each time. There's no memory for the light settings when they go dim after you turn on your lights.

Yes. The lack of a memory setting is the problem. I often use my HIDs as daytime running lights (wish we had the Canadian ruuning light switches). I am always adjusting the dash lights to bright.

Tedster,

It sounds like you you may have had the same "lame" experience I had. I once reached through the wheel to adjust the brightness while negotiating a turn in my driveway. Do not do this!!!

I almost amputated my hand while avoiding a grove of white pine trees!

I'd like to stir this thread back up again... As I've recently changed out my dash colors to blue, and as the dash now looks HOT! both day and night with the "dash dim/brite" button mashed to the "Brite" setting, I can only say that I would LOVE to know that there is a way to re-wire something so that the default is brite dash...instead of the default being dim dash.

So..."electronics wizards" out there. Tell me how to make this happen please... I would like the default to be brite -- in fact, while I'm asking, I would suggest in this request that I'd like the dash brite all the time whether or not the lights are on.

Surely there's a way to by-pass some relay or something so the dash could be brite all the time???

If you can locate it, disconnecting the red/black wire on gauge assembly connector B3 should cause the digital dash lights to be bright all the time, but I don't know what affect it will have on the incandescant bulbs for the rest of the dash switches. The dash lighting circuit is very strange. Get this - If you remove all the parking and tail light bulbs, the dash lamps (not digital) would not work during the day at all. I've not tried it, but that's the way it's wired.

I can't find any easy place to get to this wire, it has dozens of splices to other lighting circuits. The only safe place to disconnect it is right at the gauge assembly.
