Default Broken Latch Due To Carbon Trunk?

I have a carbon trunk and a buddy of mine with a carbon trunk advised me to remove the two tension rods or whatever helps pop the stock truck up...

I was told that since there is a lot less weight holding the trunk down, The tension rods are trying to pull the trunk open whitch puts more stress on the latch...

My friend says that he had to replace his latch and supposedly cost him over $200..

How would I remove the tension rods without braking them or anything else, even if it isn't nessisary it doesn't hurt to be safe...

Thank You

Philip

I spoke with my local honda and they told me it would be better to get the tool from Snap-On...

I said I would wait and never called me back on pricing or ETA...

Have you heard of Snap-On tools making that spring removal tool?

No, but, if you don't it is possible that you will destroy youre trunk latch and from what I hear from my buddy that broke his, after he put his trunk on, it cost him over $200...

Luckily a buddy of mine works at my local Honda and he said that he would remove the springs for free!!!

I'm sure that you can go to Honda and get it removed cuz my buddy said that they use a special tool to remove the tension rods without breaking anything...

Good Luck Man!

There are 2 springs. You should take both out or none. Having only one on a CF trunk could, over time, cause uneven warpage as it will try to lift on one side all the time.
You can also remove the springs with a giant pair of channel lock pliers. CAUTION: You can hurt yourself if not really careful.

I was about to say the same thing.

On my experience, I had major warpage even after removing one. It started to form as the days went by. You must remove both of them. I used a screw driver to remove mine, but I also had a towel wrapped around my arm at the same time.

I was told by my buddy at Honda that the springs come in two stiffness settings, a harder setting for the trunks with oem wings or spoilers and a softer setting for ones with out...

Just some info if anyone cared...
