Your buddy is correct. However, since Honda did not install spoilers at the factory, any car that has the heavy duty springs would have had them installed by the dealer or by the owner. Most people who put on the rear lip or spoiler at home never bothered with the HD springs. I'm not sure if many dealers did either. They weren't really necessary.
