Default Bucking S 2000

Yesterday for the first time I drove my S2000 in to Manhattan during rush hour and was concerned about the way that it behaved in stop and go traffic. Traffic was creeping along at 5 mph so I was just cruising in 1st gear at low RPMs. When I went to acclerate and shift into second the car would buck like I was a new driver trying to shift into first gear for the first time. Any idea what this could be? Clutch?

Thanks

Because of the gear ratios and high compression engine the S2000 is very susceptible to this behavior if left in first gear close to idle (moving very slowly) when you accelerate, because the gear ratio is so high and response so sensitive at low throttle, you are alternating between accelerating and engine braking. Once the cycle starts you are best off pushing the clutch back in and restarting. This can happen at any speed in first gear on the S2000, part of its high strung nature. Just accelerate evenly and then shift to second and you should be ok.

Thanks. I was hoping I didn't do anything wrong.

No damage done, but can be embarassing as it seems to happen only when people are watching you drive away.

Due to the slow speed. Hot air gets sucked into your intake causing it to bogg.....what u can do is place a heat shield on top of the radiator between the bumper and air box. Avoid raising hot air get suck into the intake. Cold air intake or CAI will help. Spider and Prolene both have this installed, seems like it works well.

Interesting thread - thanks for the info.

I've had this happen to me a few times recently, and wondered myself what was causing it. I've gotten around it by dropping it into 2nd as long as I was moving, no matter how slow. It is embarrasing as hell, though, especially in this car, since people are already looking at you...

This is thought to be one of the many related MAP sensor issues. Try doing a search on "MAP SENSOR" and you'll have volumes to read.....

I've experienced this BUCKING problem numerous times even after replacing the MAP sensor.

I've had the bucking problem when I had my Injen CAI installed, so I know its not the hot air. It is quite embarrassing in traffic. Creeping along at 5 mph, you gas it, nothing happens, then it starts to buck. A mechanic told me this happens because the car runs too rich?

I'd have to agree. Bucking is an issue with other manual cars as well. It happens to me at low RPMs on my Prelude. hasn't happened on my S2K yet though.

Maybe it is a map sensor issue but bucking due to low gear low rpm is common on a lot of manual transmission cars.
