S2k is an attractive car with timeless looks. However that is not the reason to buy this car. However potential investment gain is not the reason to buy this car.
IMO, there is only one legitimate reason to buy an s2k. That is it offers a truly unique diving experience that is rarely found in other vehicles. If you are not a driving enthusiast first, you should consider other vehicles.
Knowing what I know now, if I was buying another s2k, I would not consider color for a second.
I agree completely except for color. I really liked the RYP and managed to find one that was low miles, bone stock, and in perfect condition. I have enjoyed the heck out of it, driving just for the fun of it, whenever I can. Personally, I think God had the S2000 in mind when he created the geography of where I live. Perfect twisty 2 lanes roads combined with spectacular scenery and top down rust free environment.
Investment? Not really but I also don't trash the car (never have to any car). I never wrote in textbooks in college either. I could not bring myself to deface a good book.
Frankly, I think both son and daughter are hoping to get it as an inheritance. The recognize what it is. BTW, my wife enjoys it too. So many times she will say: "Lets go!" Maybe for a day, overnight, or a week!
I'm always keeping an eye on the 310 or so that are registered in the whole of New Zealand (population similar to South Carolina, area similar to Colorado). For the past week the number for sale has held steady at zero. I've never seen more than 5 for sale at any one time, and that was in the depths of Winter. Even a hideous, butchered one with a sort of Merc SLK-style nose on it went last week for $5K more than I paid for mine 2 years ago. I've seen them spend less than 2 days on the market.
Just to update myself on this, it looks like the butchered one didn't sell and is back on the market at the same dealership. He pulled out the only good part of the car (some Bride seats), put in OEM seats, and bumped up the price by another $500. It's quite low mileages (~26,000 miles) but it'd take a brave soul to drive it home and de-uglify it.
I will say this about GPW it's a major PIA to keep clean
That hasn't been my experience, I'd actually say just the opposite. Silver might hide the dirt better, but white is far easier to keep clean than other colors that I've owned such as dark blue, and definitely much easier than a black.
