Buy now or wait?
I was on the same page as you when I bought my S2K, holding out for exactly what I wanted, including color. But the market is a lot different now as compared to when I bought mine, and it's certainly different than when you bought your car. While there are certain colors that I still wouldn't own, I suspect that I would be less picky with regards to color were I shopping for one of these cars today, Sadly, holding out for an extended period of time these days could mean thousands of more dollars spent, particularly when it comes to certain colors..
Fast forward to today, if I was in the market. I would not hesitate to buy a yellow car. Condition, history, mod level and mileage would all come before color. This car is for driving first.
I had no color preference on my priority list but "not Yellow" was always on my mind. This was before I saw one in yellow which has now been promoted to "not too bad."
Fortunately the hideous Imola Orange Pearl and Lime Green Metallic were never sold in the US.

I thought I posted this last night but I don't see it today. Thanks for all of the insight on what to do on this one. It's very helpful. For those of you that bought "not your #1 color", did you always wish you had the other or swap out for the color you wanted years later?
Exactly. When when I bought my S2k, there were no "had to have it" colors but there was one "just can't do it" color. Yellow. Its just not for me.

I would like to think that most people, given the choice between a car that has been well taken care or one that is their favorite color, and beat would take the former rather than the latter. When people ask for advice on a car that they are thinking of purchasing, most people critique, mileage, maintenance, etc, etc. Not too many people say either buy or not because its THAT color.
I started looking for a second car, just wanted a decent Miata. I'm an RX7 fan, raced them in SCCA and restored many street cars. I have a fully sorted '93 FD R1 unmolested street car...it's so nice to look at....but it's not a daily driver. So I started looking at Maita's....A great solid little roadster. Because of the SCCA spec class, there are tons of cheap upgrade parts available. Then I saw an ad for an S2K....went and checked it out.....when the VTEC kicked in I was hooked....Wow, what a car, it's a perfect balance, just the right amount of power for cruising fun, handles great....and it's timelessly beautiful...in any color! My FD is red so I didn't want another red car. 3 years ago I started looking with a budget of no more than 12K.....When I saw a neighbors '06 Laguna blue....that was the color that got me! Tried to get her to sell it, she didn't want to part with it. Searching for a Laguna blue was a bummer, the low miles, clean title ones were all over 20K. The nicest one I could find was in just outside DC. An '07 with 72K, K&N, HSK exhaust the only mods....dealer asking 18,900....CarFax said it had been in an accident, right front, no airbag deployment. The service records were impressive, and it looked super clean in the pictures. I few up to DC. When I saw the car I was impressed....super clean in and out, engine compartment, interior, seats, trunk, new top. Test drove it, wonderful. Put it up in the air to check the suspension and undercarriage for accident damage and rust. The car obviously had never been driven in winter, super clean, and I couldn't find anything wrong....just the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced.... The dealer dropped the price to 18K....The accident report on CarFax was the only thing that bothered me, but the previous 2 owners had loved this car and taken good care of it......Should I buy it?.....I did, drove it home to Florida, straight 18 hours. What a fun time that was, and after working on the car, brakes and some maintenance upgrades, I love this car. It's easy to work on, parts are available and reasonably priced. Now 2 1/2 years later, I've been over every inch of this car, had it aligned, put another 7K on the odometer. The accident blemish on it's history is no longer a worry. I'm glad I found this S2K and bought it.... I enjoy it more than my RX7! .....Would any of you have walked away from this one?

Held off responding to this thread, but can't resisting posting a comment.
As time goes by, low mileage S2000s become more rare and more expensive. Condition of the car should be the primary concern, then followed by affordability. A pristine car may be untouchable for a person on a budget. As far as colors go, I like them all. But, I cannot love a blue interior.
I bought my '06 in '09. 13,500 miles. $21,500. It now has 85k miles and in today's CA market, it is easily worth what I paid 11 years ago.

The first S2K I looked at was Suzuka blue with the complete blue interior (dash, carpet and door cards)....I too didn't like all that blue. I think they look better with the black interior. When I started looking for a convertible I was shocked at the resale of the S2K.....an XK Jag, Z3, MR2, and some Porsche's were less expensive!
