Default Buying a previously wrecked S2000...

I am starting to look for an S200 probably a 2002 or 2003. I have been searching and when I pull up the CarFax many were previously wrecked. I have become a bit jaded from the Ferrari forums where you'd never ever ever buy a previously wrecked car, so my question. Would you have any qualms with purchasing one that was involved in an accident a couple years prior as say 2006/2007 or further back. I would absolutely stay away from any that were recently wrecked but just curious about ones from awhile back. I also pulled up one that was wrecked, and then became a Honda Certified Pre-owned, how does that happen? Thanks guys for any answers.

I would never buy a previously wrecked vehicle unless it was solely meant for the track. Even then, I would be hyper sensitive about the condition of the car since it could negatively impact on-track performance.

I work with a guy that buys cars at the auction, fixes them, and sells them. You wouldnt believe what can be fixed. Don't do it, not for a sports car like a s2000.

Mine has an "accident" reported, but the damage was 99.9% cosmetic and needed an alignment.

I would buy one so long as the damage was minimal and they had records of everything (pictures, insurance estimates, etc)

Alright so not too far off from the Ferrari world. What about one that was Honda Certified after the accident? Is it just a BS program to boost profit or do they actually take the time to certify the cars?

Honda Certified
Certified doesn't mean you're getting a good car, it means you're getting an extended warranty and whatever else is packaged with that CPO plan. I've seen some crappy Certified cars.

Never seen an S200 lol

Honestly i've seen cars labeled as "wrecked" and maybe just popped a curb or something and went through insurance to fix something small but because it went through insurance, it was labeled as such.

I would purchase one. but i would DEF have to know what was wrong with it...

Hell, if you think about it... some cars arent even reported and may have been fixed outta pocket and probably worse off than some of those that were labeled

LoL, I think I'll stick to s2k for now.

Thats kind of my thoughts as well, but you never know and unfortunately I'm not too mechanically inclined to be able to tell a real accident from a very minor one. I'm starting to think a very well sorted and maintained 00/01 might be better in the long run.

Thanks everyone

I agree w/ most here. It depends on what the damage was.

Depends on what your plans are. if the deal was great, and the car was properly repaired, I would. But don't do it unless you plan to keep it a long time. It will be hard to resell.

I bought a motorcycle with a rebuilt salvage title. Inspected it my self. No frame or fork damage, all cosmetics. The guy had receipts for all new factory parts. I bought it for 50% of bluebook. I owned it for 7 years and 20k miles. I sold it for $500 less than I paid for it. Took a while to sell. Had to wait for a guy like me who wasn't afraid of it.
