Default Buying a s2000

[B][FONT=Arial][SIZE=7]Hey folks, I am looking into buying a '05 or later s2000. I have done a lot of research on the car and I am completely in love with it. I just wanted some advice from you current s2000 owners as to what I should be looking for since I am buying a used one. I have some questions here at the bottom which I could use some answers to and anything else you want to add/advise on please do so! Thanks so much in advance!!

1.) What factors should be paying attention to when I test drive the s2000 at the dealership?

2.) I have read in previous posts that the s2k comes with a tonneau cover for when you put the top down...I have also heard that dealers try to charge for that when it really should just come with the car.....Is this true?

3.) I have a descent budget to work with ($22K) so what type of mileage should i expect the s2000 to come with my budget?

Thanks again!

Welcome and great choice!

- Look for wear holes in the soft top just behind the side windows.

- Pay close attention to the engine bay for vin numbers and to see if it was at one time modded.

As for the cover... The car comes with one. If you are buying a CPO you may be able to get them to throw that in but you will quickly learn that you will not use if much if at all. Most don't.

Mileage can always very independent of price so get the best combination you can!

ooh, and check the FAQs, I think there was a thread on this.

With 22K, you can pick up probably both an AP1 OR an AP2, you should drive both and see what you like.

Check the body! make sure there are no major accidents bent frames, ask if the car has been smashed. Make sure that the paints looks the same all over the car. Minor fender benders are not too bad, but a hugh smash is something to stay away from. Good luck

Hunting down a low-mileage '02-03 AP1 would be the best of all to buy IMHO.

-glass rear window
-slightly updated interior
-9K RPM redline
-no VSA blah blah blah

Still the original, just a bit refined. I love all years, but those two were the best ones of the production run.

I don't want to spark a heated debate between the AP1 & AP2 owners but which is better and in what ways. The only difference I know are the redline limits on both and as you mentioned above, the interior. Is there anything else significant I should know about that I might have overlooked??

22k is exactly what I paid for my 2005 three weeks ago. CPO with under 18,000 miles. It had some wear and tear issues (needed a new steering wheel). The dealer threw in a brand new tourneau cover and manual. At the time, I found 3 cars with similar miles / same year around that price point. non-CPO were running a couple thousand less.

Hate to sound like a complete newbie but what is "CPO" and "non-CPO"...i check the FAQ for commonly used acronyms but couldn't find it. BTW, the FAQ did answer a lot of questions. Thanks again for your all inputs guys!
