Sounds like a solid deal. $500.00 over the life of the car is really nothing. I paid $27,500. for my 01 in 01 with 8000 miles. I also agree that you should get a CarFax, it is well worth the money. Good luck!!

Did he tell you why the car needed a valve adjustment and new spark plugs after just 44k miles? Did something happen to the engine?

17.5 does sound like a good price!

I bought my 01 w/55K miles for 16K a little over two months ago.

Just make sure you have it inspected first by a reputable shop. Definitely worth the 100 bucks or so...

I saw you had some concern of oil burn in the RX-8, watch for that in the S as well....I myself would try to lower it the extra 500$, Maybe take an approved loan paper for 17k, either way its not a bad deal I payed 17900 for my 01 with 22k.

Hmmm... THAT i never asked him. What is the normal period for valve adjustment and/or spark plug replacements? Does valve adjustment means that the engine has been abused??
Valve adjustment is scheduled for 30k. Not sure about spark plugs, but they are so cheap and easy to install that I could see someone replacing when doing a valve adjustment just for peace of mind. I am not sure about abuse but I would think hard runs on the motor would cause an adjustment of the valves to be done sooner than someone who doesnt rev the motor out.

I think that is a good deal assuming there are no accidents or problems. Body is in good shape besides the normal minor rock chips, if none even better. You know he took real good care.
I suggest you do the carfax as well for peace of mind. I actually bought mine in January 07 for about the same price. 2002 39,000m FOR $17,500.
Good luck with the purchase.
