Default Bye-Bye S2000

Well, after a few scary drives home in the snow (yes, had snow tires) and other general difficulties with the S2000 being my only car, I decided to trade it in.

I picked up a 2008 GTI and have had it for about a week. It is different from the S2000 (obviously) but I think it will be a lot of fun once I am out of my break-in.

So I just wanted to say that I've had a lot of fun on the boards and in my S2000 and will still be around (mostly in W&W forum).

Happy Holidays!

did u get dsg. I have heard problem with the dsg not shifting right when you want it to shift..it lags. I was gona buy the car but decided once i started reserching it. I had it for a day(the dealer let me take it home) it was a pk 1 with votex bodykit; it was very nice and sweet. It is fun to drive even though it lacked power. The car is good looking but the reliability factor steered me away. If the car was relaible i would have bought it in a heart beat.

I got the DSG is it shifts very quickly (insert obligatory "faster than any human" comment here). I have not heard of any major reliability issues on the GTI, but we shall see.

I am not sure where you get the "lack of power" comment. It has 207 ft-lbs of torque around 2k rpm and with a chip (getting that saturday) it takes it to a touch over 300 ft-lbs.

It isn't as fast as an S2000 in an absolute sense, but I'd say it's just as fast in a practical sense. Meaning for commuting and tooling around town it gets off the line faster and that is most of the driving I do.

chipped GTI's = 300 ft lbs. of torque??? I have a friend with a chipped S4, but I am still a bit skeptical...

You'll enjoy it a lot, i've owned a lot of vws and they're a whole bunch of fun. The turbo 1.8t and 2.0t are very undertuned and a good tune can really make it feel alot more substantial! The apr tune on the 2.0T GTi gets you to 252 hp and 303 lbft at the crank ... good times .

Yeah, it is totally different than the S2000. I have now had a supercharged car, an NA car, and now a turbo car.

I think the GTI is a good cross between my big boat supercharged american car (lots of torque and space) and the well built but small and low torque S2000.

Thanks for the good wishes.

You just inspired me to have a look at what GTIs and S4s are available in my area should I make the decision to get rid of the S2000.

Funny thing, I looked at pictures of 8 cars and saw the shifter in one of em, and remembered how soft and mushy it felt to shift a VW or Audi and how nice it is in the S. I can't do it.

But I hope you enjoy your new car!
