Bye Bye s2000, Hello Z06
I don't get it. Anyone who would prefer a Corvette over an S2K obviously bought the S2K for the wrong reasons to begin with.
Corvette's are second to nothing in a straight line. Big engine, big tires, big effing deal. The measure of a sports car is not how fast it gets from point A to point B, but how it gets there.
You will miss the razor-sharp reflexes of the S2000 even if you pride yourself in being a drag-strip killer. If the Corvette is your dream, live it and have a good time.

Maybe you haven't driven a 02' Z06. God knows i did before i got the s2k. No questions asked, the s2k is a high 13 to low to mid 14 sec car, the z06 is a mid to high 12 sec car. Alright, the s2k wasn;t made to be a drag strip killer. But then you had to go an question handling. IMHO, the z06 outhandles the s2k. It takes hard fast turns much more confidently. When i drove it hard, the z06 made me feel a professional road course driver, but hey, i did win a amateur auto-x competition. (in my delsol) But then again, quite a price difference. If i had the $ the z06 would be in the driveway, no questions asked. The s2k has the looks and rarity, and thats why i got it instead of a 01' C5. I love the s2k, and i hope i have it forever, guess it will always be my baby, but a nice z06 as a stable mate would deifntly be welcomed. Mike
Congrats on the new ride- the Z06 is absolutely world-class in all respects. I'm actually considering an '02 Z06 vs. the S2000 myself and would appreciate your comments on both, having spent more time in each than in the brief test drives I've managed to do thus far. Enjoy!
A good friend hosts my NSX in his garage on the mainland. It sits next to his Z06. A very good friend he is as he lets me drive whenever we are together in his car. Don't ask why and no he refuses my like offer. As such I have accrued a significant amount of seat time in his Corvette. Thrillr has it right...the Z06 is relatively easy to drive fast in comparison to my S2000 or NSX for that matter. Like both Hondas the Z06 is very balanced at speed and has a performance envelope that is beyond even reasonably safe street 'racing'. As with both Hondas the Z06 has excellent ergonomics save the very tall shifter. Although to my eye it is not as handsome as either Honda it makes up some of this lost ground with awesome performance and an exhaust note at start-up to cry for. Its one major failing is that it is not made by Honda.
Would I trade either of my Hondas for a Z06? No. When my new garage is finished there is a space dedicated for one...in silver.

Z06 is a great car! Problem is Ya get the stero-type issue especially on the east coast....alot of muscle head guido's drive them. Or old men with grey beards and pipes. The car
is Great looking on the outside.....But the inside is major plastic batmobile from hell! I saw 6 vettes on my road trip down the Garden state Parkway! I saw no S2000's. If what your after is just pure performance got get a vette. I like the exclusiveness of the s2000. The z06 is an awesome car its just not for me. Good luck with the vette. Your see yourself coming and going at least 5 or six times a day! But again the z06 is awesome but i'd rather have an s2000 a jeep and a jet ski for the same price of one zo6.

While I wouldn't particularly care for a Z06 as a daily driver, it is nothing short of awesome on a road course. It does everything well, not just accelerate. Nothing short of a 996 TT can run with it from what I've seen. I've even seen them sodomize more powerful (but comparatively sloppy handling) Vipers on the track.
An instructor I had at one DE had took me out in his. Fast fast fast. Gone are the days of sloppy handling, straight line muscle cars. The new vettes are hell on wheels.
Have fun. Watch your oil temps though. . . early ones had issues with high oil temps necessitating the use of an outboard oil cooler. Also keep an eye out for cracking of your front rotors.

Lol, A GSX owner talking about mechincal problems. Those beutiful DSM AWD 5 speed tranni's are nothing short of horrible. my friends 02' z06 has 8k on the clock with basically no problems. THe 01 z06 had some issues, but they were cleaered up. How about we congradulate this guy on his new aquisition. Mike
