C&D-Collect ’Em All: Buying the 2001 10Best List
Ran across this article on car and driver.com. Did a search and didnt see that anyone posted it. The S2000 peice is about 2/3 of the way down the page above the Miata.
"One of Honda’s two forays into rear-wheel-drive cars in the past 20 years, the S2000 is one of those special cars that are canonized the moment they come into existence (it’s no coincidence that Honda’s other rear-driver, the Acura NSX, was another). A screaming 2.0-liter engine with an 8300-rpm redline drove the rear wheels through a perfect six-speed manual gearbox. The handling and the brakes were top-shelf, making the S2000 ideal as a track champ or canyon carver. In 2001, we even admonished buyers not to squander their S2K’s potential on mundane trips around town. Now we say why not use it for everything, every day? With the roof folded, there’s even limitless vertical cargo space. There’s only one spec to buy, but shoppers need to make sure the S2000 they’re looking at has been adult-driven and well maintained."

Kinda surprising how fast the original boxter was compared to the S2000. It could spank it handily in a straight line - and with only 201hp.

I thought I remembered reading how before the S2000 came along the Boxster wasn't really all that impressive, but then once the S2000 started getting all the roadster accolades, then Porsche started putting more into it. So I am surprised the 2000-2001 Boxters are "excellent".

Actually enthusiests really like the boxer. It generally gets a shitty rap because its the lowest end porsche, but the reviews ive seen are great, amazing balance and wonderful brakes.

In 1999 it was the most powerful sports car in it's budget. It our powered porsche and bmw's equivalent in a 2.0L.
Until the Z4 came out with the 3.2v6 The 2009 S2000 still produced more HP.
