I had this happen to me for the first time this week.

Honestly I hardly ever run with the AC on due to top down or its just too damn cold to begin with.

This weekend was pretty hot at times and I put it on to cool the old legs, sometimes it was really cold, then it would be cool. I thought it might be having an issue but I suspect its a "feature"

I have the same issue too. Never try to recirculate the air though, I'll try it next time. As for now the top is down here in jersey

Someone recently posted a thread about changing the AC filter. He said that helped a lot.

Seems like my '00 model's compressor does not kick on at low RPMs. Perhaps 2K to get it to kick on. Sure makes it warm sitting in traffic at idle. The air coming out at idle is somewhere between cool and warm and has the humidity in it. Blah!

Mine puts out some mighty cold air and it's not even on recirculate.
Just like you FunInTheSun, mine is REALLY cold. It's even colder than the VW/Climatronic system on my Passat.

I just ran a test on my cars. Try this:

Get a meat or other type of probe thermometer that goes down to about 30 deg F.

Put in one of the dash vents and turn the A/C on recirculate with the fan on full.

My readings after driving the car for 10 minutes (to get the heat out of the dash, it is a hugh heat sink) was that the temp would change from about 40 deg. F. to about 48 deg. F. as the compressor cycled. Cycle usually about every minute or two.

If it doesn't get down to at least 42 after about 20 minutes on full fan and recirculate you might want to take it to your Honda dealer.

HTH,

Damn I hate that! It has only happened to me a few times, but it always takes me an hour or so to figure out. Some idiot engineer in Japan has got to have his ears burning when it happens, cause I'm straight cursing his ass!

Does the compressor turn off at WOT and / or when VTEC engages? I have noticed that the A/C will go hot on me when I accelerate hard for more than a few seconds.
