I know the a/c affects gas mileage since your putting more work load on the engine but regarding performance, it seems with the a/c on I lose some. Regarding acceleration and top speed, do you lose alot with the a/c on and top up or is it worse with the top down and no a/c.Thanks

 

with the top up there is less drag (low pressure area behind windshield slows the car).

The AC compressor puts a load on the engine. some estimates are 5HP or so.

 

You will probably have better fuel economy with the top up and AC on above 40mph than the other way round.
