A/C stay on when ur in heat mode?
I have an 05 and when i wanna change it to defrost for colder weather i put the heat on but it automatically turn the a/c on (shows the green light on the button) and i've tried to turn it off but wont let me. I believe a few months back i was able to but is this normal? I'm sure i can tell it dies the engine down abit when thats on i haven't really notices if it is killin my gas mileage. If its not, how can i get this fix?
Thanks
Jeff
Thanks
Jeff
The A/C does indeed automatically come on with the activation of the defroster. It should, though, turn off when you press the A/C button once more. Take it in and have it looked at, unless someone else knows a quick fix on that.
No, it won't turn off on I think 03 and newer at all on defrost. There is a button mod you can do however that will allow you to turn it off like Ted stated.
Also, fwiw, air conditioning ≠ air cooling. It cools the air but it also pulls humidity out, so if you have it on hot, it will blow hot and dry the air out.

To De-activate automatic a/c feature:
1) Turn vehicle off.
2) Turn fan knob off.
3) Turn temperature knob counter-clockwise to minimum (blue area).
4) Turn vent knob to panel only setting (next to max a/c).
5) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while starting car.
6) Continue holding for 7-10 seconds until air recirculation button stops flashing.
To Re-activate automatic a/c feature in the future if you like too:
1) Turn vehicle off.
2) Turn fan knob off.
3) Turn temperature knob counter-clockwise to minimum (blue area).
4) Turn vent knob clockwise to defrost position.
5) Hold down both air recirculation button and a/c button while starting car.
6) Continue holding for 7-10 seconds until air recirculation button stops flashing.
7) After the 7-10 seconds described in step 6, the recirculation button will start to flash. Continue to hold the button for another 7-10 seconds. After this, the a/c light will turn to green and it's finished!

option+= ftw - know your keyboard!
Thanks for posting that - I was looking for it myself. The nice thing about this mod is that the a/c still kicks on, but now you have the option to turn off the a/c during defrost.

Start, Run, charmap. PC FTL on this one

This is a very handy mod along with the top down while rolling. I actually have been meaning to redo it myself since my dash wiring harness was replaced. Now I've got the info to take outside with me in a few minutes as well.
Right, Saki. It doesn't change the function of the defrost, just adds an ability to adjust it as desired.
