Default C6 vs S2k

Suppose hypothetically you were shopping for a used S at the limit of your budget, and someone offered to hook you up with a price on a new Corvette C6 for about the price of a new S2k. The money is there, but you're 20, live at home, and it would deplete a large chunk of your life savings.

Am I completely stupid for even considering this when it would cost me the money I've been saving for a house? Or is this one of those opportunities I should jump all over?

if you can get the c6 for that price, .. get it, and sell it for a profit

Exactly.

Let's see 30k for a C6. So, you must be talking about a "purchase option" AKA lease.

Me and some of the guys I work with have come to an understanding even though we all like different things. We have this philosophy that allows us to get along when were talking cars (or whatever) and it goes like this "It's all about what YOU want." I think this applies here, you have to decide what it is that you really want. I mean who wouldn't like to have a C6. But is it more important to you than a house? With that said My opinion is pass on it. There will be time for toys later.

Unless you're dead certain, and willing, to resell the vette for a profit, I'd steer clear. Stick to your budget.

Things can change so quickly at this age, that it isn't worth sinking a ton of money into it. At the same time, you're young, so get a fun, fast car. I'd vote for the used S.

Thanks guys, you're right. I don't know what I was thinking, I need to save for a house! Much more important. I think maybe I should get a plan together for how I plan to buy a house and see how much I can afford on a S2K.

And no, it's not a lease option, a friend works high up at GM. Under my circumstances, it would be very unethetical of me to accept such a kind gesture and then turn around to sell it.

I just hope 5 years or so down the road this opportunity will still be open to me.

Dude, you're worried about a house at age 20? I don't know whether to be scared or impressed.

I owned my home at 22. My friend, who is high-school educated, is a loan officer (or used to be) and owned his at 20, and now pulls down 120k +. On the other hand, my cousin is 28, travels the world on pennies, and tries to keep as few material possessions as possible. If your goal is to own a home, don't let age hold you back.
